Visiting Scotland with Kids 4yr & 1.5 yr old

We are from singapore, family of 4 - Two Adults and two kids ( aged 4 and 1.5 years old ) planning to visit Scotland from 2nd Sep to 11th Sep 2017.
We are very much interested to explore below itinerary but not sure if we can make it with kids and also not too sure how do we commute and go around places. We are looking for a simple and cost efficient options.

Two options we are thinking of :
1. Rent a car - But we dont know the routes and with kids thinking not to be in a situation to follow GPS and try to find places and get lost in the middle somewhere etc. We have this fear. Moreover we cant enjoy the scenery during our travel.
2. Booking local tours like Rabbie's are very interesting. Biggest concern for us is that rabbie's local tours do not accommodate kids under 5 years age.
So we are reaching out to the forum for any suggestions for making our visit fruitful and more importantly easy. Do recommend us some option or local tour operators who can accommodate our trip with kids. If you can also recommend good accommodation also will be helpful
